Private Commissions

I have been fascinated with the editorial images from lifestyle, travel and fashion magazines for as long as I can remember. The photos that capture my attention are the ones that show character, reveal texture and tell stories. I have also been disappointed to see that a professional portraits, more often than not, involve a stiff pose, clothing that we otherwise avoid and a pop of artificial light that shows exactly what we look like yet says nothing about who we are. Why can a magazine reveal so much about somebody else, yet photos of us remind us only of the person that everybody else wants us to be? My goal as a photographer is to help my clients express who they are, both in the reality of their day-to-day lives and in their thoughts and dreams. I will admit that sometimes I do create a "normal" portrait, but I continue to push both myself and my clients to dig deeper.

My approach to pricing is very simple, we discuss your needs and budget and then design a package specially for you. Packages can be as little as $200 or over $2000, depending on the number of sessions, the locations and addition staff required.

Below the damBelow the damThis portrait was captured at the base of a small dam in Rochester, MN. I love the way concrete reflects light and this location had a lot of both for us to work with.
